Stress Management: Toolkit
Stress is the #1 reported trigger for gambling relapse. When cortisol spikes, your brain craves the fastest available dopamine hit, and for gamblers, that means betting. This course doesn't teach you to eliminate stress (impossible), it teaches you to respond to it differently. You'll build a layered set of tools of physical, cognitive, and environmental strategies that activate before stress can escalate into a relapse.
What You'll Learn
- Identify your personal stress signature, how stress shows up in your body, thoughts, and behavior
- Build a tiered stress-response set of tools: quick fixes (60 seconds), medium tools (10 minutes), and deep resets (1 hour)
- Break the stress -> gambling autopilot loop with pattern interrupts
- Use physiological stress-reduction techniques backed by research (vagal toning, cold exposure, breathing)
- Create environmental buffers that reduce daily stressor load
- Develop a stress inoculation plan for high-risk situations
